No one warns you that de-lurking is highly addictive.
*January 14, 2008
Luckily, the consequences are only positive (that I can tell so far). Lots of love here in the blogosphere this past week.
I kind of hate the word blogosphere. Don't you?
Speaking of words, since that's what the damned blogosphere is made up of, I want to continue de-lurking (as I said, HIGHLY ADDICTIVE), and I want the topic to be favorite words. We all use 'em every day. So what's your favorite?
Mine are:
Besotted
Veranda
Boulevard
Clerestory
Turpitude
And, of course, w00t, which, curiously, isn't a word according to www.m-w.com, even though it was selected by m-w.com as 2007 Word of the Year.
If I were a wacky celebrity, I'd probably name my kid one of those words, I love the way they sound that much. Lucky for Chad and my progeny, I'm not a wacky celebrity.
If you've already de-lurked, feel free to comment anyway! Every blogger has a favorite word or two.

I always liked the word passion. And "de-lurked" sounds like "de-cloaked" which I like.

I like the words Smorgasbord, plethora, Zamboni and zucchini. Not so much for their meaning but because I like to say them.

I like exanimate.

Ha! I actually started working on a post about this. So I've been thinking of my favourites lately. Here are a few: loquacious, soliloquy, redundant and dashing.
Not good out loud word? ointment.

lately, i've been liking the word angst. it sounds like its meaning. my favorite words to write with are ostensibly and penchant. they're just...so intelligent!

Veranda Weaver sounds okay. Not sure about Boulevard or Turpitude Weaver though.
Words I like: ubiquitous, mnemonic, persimmon
Words I detest: irregardless (NOT. a. word!), moist

I don't know if laura is the person I think she is, but she said what I was thinking. But, since I am your mother-in-law, I reserve the right to repeat the fact that Veranda Weaver has a quite nice sound...definitely southern, classy, novel with a touch of vintage. And, just thinking of a veranda bring to mind a cool "spring" breeze....

No, Susan, I'm not "that" Laura, if you mean your other d-i-l, but I did used to live across the hall from her at JBU!

the phrase 'ludicrously tasty' which I saw on an Ireland cereal box.

Thanks.
"Turpitude Weaver" sounds like a cabbage-headed Flannery OConner (anti)heroine.
Lel, Lellah, or Lee Ella. Or the coffee spoons thing. My url is dreadful and only born of necessity.

I like "obstinate." I tell my students all the time that they are being obstinate. Not that they know what it means. One student of mine told his mom, "Guess what? I was obstinate today!"

The other day I was on www.iambossy.com and she said the phrase "Barack O'Boyfriend," which is the greatest thing that I've ever heard.
Thought you might enjoy that.

I like "chaos" and "posthumously" and "stiletto"... Of course that is probably just because I have an obsession with stiletto heels... What can I say? They're SSSSSSOOOO sexy!

Oi.
It makes me feel very British and maybe a little snooty.
Snooty is also a good word.

I don't know that I have a list of favorite words, but I definitely have a list of LEAST favorite words and combos:
expound
"latest and greatest"
"politics as usual"
the "p-word" that's a synonym for cats
I just enjoy words that you don't hear every day, but they're kind of fun to say or hear:
persnickety
ubiquitous
falafel
I also like gossamer. That's a good one!
