Wordplay

For the past few nights, whenever I stretch out into bed and begin the process of unloading my mind so that it's possible for me to drift off without the help of various sleep aids (NyQuil's the new favorite), the word semolina has popped into my head.

Is there any sense to be made of this? Should I even try, or should I throw it in the same category as that dream I had the other night in which I was walking around Wal-Mart eating very old cooked corn out of a peanut can, kernel by kernel?

A woman I know who is studying to be a priest at Perkins School of Theology told me that whenever I'm trying to sit in silence with God and find my mind busying itself incessantly, I should think of one word--peace, stillness, or silence, for example--to bring me back to center. I can't help but wonder if it's possible that my mind has selected the word semolina for this very purpose.

I don't know about you, but to me, nothing says silence and stillness and peace like starchy endosperms.

Find It In:

Okay, so even tho' I consider myself as having a pretty good vocabulary semolina sent me to the dictionary. I always knew you were an unusual child...as words go, it could be worse. Enjoy your word and if it calms you, all the better.
